“We are part of something way bigger. Bigger than you, bigger than me, bigger than we.”
-Beyonce
It is with great honor that I serve as your Assistant Principal. I have been a member of this school community for 22 years. I began my educational career in January 2000, when this building housed the George Meany School/PS 90X. Vested in the children and families of this community, I went on to become a founding member of The Family School in 2006. As a practitioner in elementary education, I served in many capacities throughout my career; Lead Teacher, Math Coach, and Teacher Mentor.
I am a graduate of Virginia State University, an Historically Black University, Lehman College, and Mercy College. I hold degrees in English, Elementary Education, and School Building Leadership. I am a proud member of Phi Delta Kappa International, the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, where I serve as Lead Teen Advisor. I believe that our purpose in life is to support and serve others. My life motto is, “Lead by serving and gain by giving.” This serves as the foundation to my life’s work as I help others key into their core to unlock their full potential.
As educators, preparing our children for the challenges they may meet is an imperative that we must embrace with urgency and fervor. The world is complex and becoming more so as we embrace multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion and belonging both domestically and globally. My goal is to continue to be an active leader and advocate for our children by fostering a collaborative environment, where we provide supportive learning opportunities to our black and brown scholars and adults which extends beyond the traditional school day. This lifelong work goes beyond the scope of a title or position, it is my commitment to education ministry for our community. This work cannot be done alone, each of you play a role in this imperative and each of you are a part of shaping our future.
As a lifelong learner who is dedicated to nurturing, educating, and empowering children, my greatest accomplishment is being a mother to my amazing daughter and son whom I refer to as my ‘Heartbeat.”
